This annual event addresses aspects of patient care at hospitals and that of hospital-based nutritional intervention. The Scientific Programme has topics focused on medical and nutritional requirements of different clinical conditions, delivered by distinguished National and International Physicians, Surgeons, Pediatricians, Intensivists, Dietitians and Clinical Nutritionists. Over 250 delegates from 20 states in the country are attending the Conference.
International faculty from university of Santo Tomas Hospital, Manila, Philipines highlighted the importance of - Optimising nutrition through parenteral nutrition and Dr Marianna Ramona from the Department of Internal Medicine, The medical city- Manila, Philippines, spoke on peptide based diets – emerging paradigm shift in critically ill.

Our Clinical Nutrition team has translated this into their practice and work closely with Clinical teams in developing patient specific nutrition. In helping patients battle the disease, dietitians play a pivotal role and it is important that they constantly stay abreast of global trends and development in the field.” In India, dieticians have a unique role as they have to manage both under-nourished and over-nourished, incidentally India has the largest number of malnourished children in the world. The problem in the country is not calorie consumption but taking nutritious food. The 5th International Clinical Nutrition Update 2013 will pronounce a ‘Hyderabad Nutrition Declaration.’ The declaration will propose the following
1. It should be made mandatory for all hospital to have a nutritionist.
2. Dietician should be a made a part of the medical team treating critical patients.
3. In nutrition, micronutrients are as important as calorie intake.
Dr Sasi Kiran desired greater importance being imparted to nutrition in the curriculum for MBBS. He said nutrition plays a vital role in the management and prevention of disease and long term benefits accrue with nutritious diet.
The important feature of this Update is a Session on Nutritional Intervention in Organ Transplant, nutritional implications in diseases affecting protein and fat metabolism.
The 5th International Clinical Nutrition Update is an effort to augment the knowledge of the Dietitians by sharing the evidence-based best practices in Clinical nutrition, by exchange of ideas and knowledge between different disciplines."
The Theme for the 5th Clinical Nutrition Update 2013 is "Sharing Knowledge and Practicing together.
