The students scheduled a collection drive from the 3rd - 7th October. All donations such as rice, wheat flour, daal, soaps and mosquito coils will be donated to the “Indira Gandhi International Academy for Sri Lankan refugee children” which houses 120 refugee children. Money Contributions will be donated to the autistic centre “BELAKKU- School for Children with Special Needs” to buy adaptive equipment. Cookies and toiletries will be donated to the Chaitanya Public School. A bake sale was also organised by the Grade 11 girls who baked cookies and cupcakes to raise money towards this event. The SCA also arranged for Biryani to be delivered to the “Indira Gandhi International Academy for Sri Lankan refugee children”.
As part of community Initiative, every year, Canadian International School students teach English, Math and Science every week to children at Srilankan refugee school, Chaitanya Public School and APD (The Association Of People With Disability).Grade 12 students also teach Autistic children from Belaku, an NGO, who visit CIS on a weekly basis. In addition to teaching, CIS students & staff organize couple of charity drives throughout the year & distribute old / new clothes, stationery, snacks & toiletries to the schools.

Eischez Sadiq, student at CIS said “I feel that the experience of Joy of Giving really did bring Joy to many of us who donated. Though we may have been giving a little, knowing that it will mean a lot to the poor brought a feeling of self - satisfaction upon us.”
Kathy, student at CIS said “Joy of Giving is about bringing a big change through small steps. It really is the little things that matter and have the biggest impact on us and on the people we help.”
Mahesh Nandwani student at CIS said: “Joy of Giving week was indeed a joyful week for all the students in CIS. It gave us a chance for us to really give back to the community and to help people in need.”
The SCA (School Community Association) of Canadian International School decided this year's "The Giving week" to have a fundraising event for 120 meals of Chicken Biryani to the children of IGIA. Yuka Kikuchi, Social Giving Chair of SCA organized Cooking Lesson at the Oberoi Hotel. The event was attended by mothers and children of various nationalities. One of the feedbacks was: "It was wonderful to learn and donate at the same time!'’ said Yuka KIKUCHI, Social Giving Chair – SCA.
Some lessons in life need to be experience based and to watch the IB CAS students of CIS organize and take charge of the "Joy of Giving Week” makes we realize how the combined efforts of students can make a big impact on others who are less fortunate but more importantly is the impact it has made on those young students who were the organizers and doers for our school, said Allan Villiers, ES Principal.
