UTSAV is a socio-cultural, charitable trust, bringing together passionate and culturally enthusiastic citizens of Bangalore.
UTSAV is celebrating Durga Puja for the second consecutive year from the 10th of October to the 14th of October 2013, at SHREE KALA MANTAP , #70, 15TH Cross Road, 3rd Phase, J.P. Nagar, Bangalore.
The president of UTSAV, Mr. Timir Chatterjee says: “We celebrate festivals with a difference. For us it is not only a festival but a celebration of Life! To extend our helping hands to those in need has thus been our motto too. Utsav began its maiden journey just a year back but its limited resources have been rendered considerable with eager participation of people all around. We have thus been able to give our time, efforts and aid to those in need”.
Prasad and community lunch and dinner or ‘Bhog’ will be served on all days of the festival, free for all.
The secretary Mr. Kinshuk Roy says: “On the cultural front, we have songs, dance and drama put up by our in-house talents for entertainment in the evenings. Our special attraction—Lopamudra Mitra, versatile vocal artist from Kolkata performing on Maha Navami evening.”
As per Bengali folklore on the day of Maha Shashthi, Ma Durga comes to her mother’s home after a long year with her family. Keeping with the tradition, on this auspicious evening, UTSAV ladies dressed in white color red bordered saree will perform traditional Bengali rituals called ‘Devi Baran’ to welcome Ma Durga to her mother’s home. On Maha Saptami evening, “Sur-e Taal-e Adday” program brings a delightful melodious adda, an intellectual exchange of its kind which string together many popular Hindi-Bangla paired songs. Bangalore’s Teen Band Bandishe came into limelight last year with their first live performance on the stage of UTSAV. Bandishe is coming back once again on UTSAV Durga Puja to enthrall one and all with their electrifying performance on 12th October, Maha Ashtami night. On the same evening, UTSAV talents will present “HORIKHELA”, a dance drama enacted and choreographed to a poem by Tagore ,which glorifies the bravery & patriotism of Rajput women, belonging to the warrior clan of India. This program is innovatively conceptualized and choreographed based on Tagore’s poem, songs and infusion with Rajasthani music.
Utsav tries its best within limited capacity and resources to engage it’s members in benevolent activities like lending support to various NGOs in Bangalore (Samiksha & similar other institutions) providing education to underprivileged children and so on. In May, 2013, it organized a fun filled day at Kidwai Hospital to bring smiles on pediatric cancer patients. Utsav now a charitable trust, is spreading its wings fast to bring in positive core in society; thus celebrating life in every possible way.
Utsav is incomplete without you. Come, join Utsav to take part in celebrating life!”
