Capitalizing on the growth opportunities in India, UL has made considerable progress in leading safety standards creation and standards adoption across Indian industry under its ‘In India For India’ campaign. The appointment of Suresh Sugavanam heralds a renewed focus and commitment to safety in India and South Asia. He will be responsible for driving UL’s growth in the subcontinent, building on the solid foundation and momentum achieved under Venkitachalam.
According to Suresh Sugavanam, “UL India has made its mark among various sectors including energy, water, health, environment and consumer products by working closely with business leaders, regulatory bodies and the government. In my new role, I look forward to extend the great work done by the team and continue to help our customers improve product quality and product acceptance, gain efficiencies in time to market and reduce risk.”
Suresh Sugavanam joins UL from Suzlon Group where he led several strategic and operational assignments for over five years. Most recently, he was based in Germany as Senior Vice President – Operations for REpower systems, a $2.5B wind turbine subsidiary of Suzlon. Prior to Suzlon, Suresh led strategy & acquisitions for LexisNexis; and was with The Boston Consulting Group in the U.S. and London. He is a chemical engineer from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and an MBA from University of Chicago-Booth School of Business. He will be based in Bangalore.
R.A. Venkitachalam, who led UL’s growth in the region for over ten years, will take on a new role focusing on spreading UL’s Public Safety Mission throughout Asia-Pacific. “With great pride and privilege I accept my new role in the Public Safety Mission at UL’s not-for-profit parent and look forward to contributing to UL’s global growth,” said Venkitachalam.
